One Simple Way To Really Know You Are On Track
Do you ever wonder if you are on the wrong track?
With your mission?
The way you spend your time?
With the people in your life?
With the work that you do?
You wouldn’t be alone.
How do I know? The shortest answer is that once that was me.
There is actually one simple and sure way to recalibrate yourself so that you can absolutely know that you are back on track and moving in the right direction.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I can confidently assert that the answer is to set goals.
You ask, can it really be that simple?
Well, yes it can.
Goals do many things for us.
Goals give us direction.
They help us define what we really, really want.
They increase energy, motivation, and sense of excitement.
They provide a focus for our actions on a daily basis.
They provide us with measurable outcomes.
Goals, done well, help us accomplish our life’s purpose and mission.
If you are like me, you love goals, and set goals, and accomplish goals and yet can still sometimes experience a feeling of uncertainty.
There’s some good news for us in those times, in plain sight if you know where to look for it.
In the bible, in Philippians, chapter 2 verse 13 we are told that “God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases HIM.”
When I apply that verse to times of doubt or questioning whether the things…all the things… that I do daily contribute to something meaningful, something aligned with God’s will for me, I can know several things:
1. There can be no better mentor, no better guide, than God, and it says in this verse that HE is working in ME. What that means in my opinion is that God is literally at work fixing, renewing, reshaping us from the inside out.
2. Why is He investing in me? I think because he wants fertile ground for the desires He is planting in us.
3. He is giving us the power to do. We don’t have to rely on ourselves, we can rely on God to give us more than enough power to do what needs to be done. That power may express itself as creativity, determination, energy, talents, love…you name it, whatever is needed to fulfill HIS will for us, we will have access to it, in abundance, because that’s the kind of God He is.
4. We get to do what pleases HIM. God already has in mind for me and you a plan, a great plan, to be a loving and serving member of this planet. Jesus told us that we are to love God and loves others – those were the two commandments he said were greater than all the others.
So in all we do, with all of our goals, we can be at peace when we come back to these truths found in God’s word.
We can lay the pattern of our days, our goals, our actions against these simple truths and we can know, deeply know, that we are on point, on purpose, and doing what He desires.
So here’s the action to take next: look at your goals.
Look at the actions you have mapped out to achieve them.
If you are taking consistent action toward good and godly goals then first, congratulations and second, know that you are in alignment with God’s plans for you.
The rub here, and what may account for any feelings that you are out of alignment is if you’ve got a bunch of worthy goals and yet, for reasons only you know, you are avoiding taking action.
Remember, God gave you the desire for those goals, and he will be faithful to give you the power to move forward on them. But, it is up to you to channel that power into ACTION.
This is so simple, but so powerful.
He is doing HIS part. Are you?
